Getting started

Setup & requirements

BearBreaker is designed to run locally on your machine. Here is the full path from purchase to first execution.

Brokerage

Alpaca API

BearBreaker currently runs through Alpaca, chosen for its reliability, transparency, and zero-cost access for both paper and live trading.

Defaults

Ready out of the box

Parameters arrive pre-configured for straightforward use. Advanced users can adjust them, though caution is advised, because the defaults exist for a reason.

Then what

Put your capital in

Once capital is allocated, BearBreaker handles the rest. The system executes the rules and you stay free to watch, pause, or step in at any point.

Requirements

  • A computer that can stay online during market hours
  • Python 3.10 or newer
  • A stable internet connection
  • An Alpaca account (paper is free)
  • Basic comfort with installing a program and following a short guide

Setup steps

01

Get an Alpaca account

Create a free Alpaca account and generate API keys. Start with paper trading to verify behaviour without risking capital.

02

Download the BearBreaker package

After purchase you receive the full source code, configuration file, and setup instructions. No hidden binaries.

03

Install dependencies

The project uses Python and a few standard libraries. A single requirements file is included. Installation usually takes a few minutes.

04

Add your API keys

Paste your Alpaca API key and secret into the local environment file. These keys never leave your machine.

05

Review the default parameters

The config file exposes every threshold, cooldown, size multiplier, and capital limit. Read each one before you change anything.

06

Run in paper mode first

Launch the system with paper trading enabled. Watch the system tray status and the local dashboard, including the live ledger and order output, for several sessions.

07

Switch to live when ready

When you are comfortable, change the environment flag to live. The system behaves identically, only real capital is now deployed.

The huge idea

Run it 24/7 on a VPS and own your own private trading node

You are not tied to your laptop. Once the package is set up, you can move the whole system to a cloud VPS so it stays online around the clock, even when your home computer is off, asleep, or disconnected.

Always on

The bot keeps watching and acting while you sleep, travel, or step away. No missed sessions because a local machine rebooted.

Paper and live side by side

Run a paper instance next to a live instance on the same VPS to compare behaviour before committing more capital.

Remote from anywhere

SSH in from your phone or laptop to check logs, restart, or change parameters without touching the host machine.

Stable connection

A data centre connection is usually cleaner than home Wi-Fi, with fewer drops during market hours.

Same code, same rules

The package runs identically on a VPS. Nothing is different except the machine it lives on.

You control the keys

Your Alpaca API keys live on the server you rent, not on someone else's platform. You can wipe, rotate, or move them any time.

What the VPS workflow looks like

  1. 1.Rent a small Linux VPS from any provider you trust. A basic plan is enough to start.
  2. 2.Upload the BearBreaker package and install the Python dependencies with the included requirements file.
  3. 3.Add your Alpaca API keys to the environment file on the server. They never leave that machine.
  4. 4.Run the system under a process manager like systemd, PM2, or tmux so it restarts automatically if the process stops.
  5. 5.Monitor the local dashboard and logs through an SSH tunnel or by forwarding the dashboard port securely.

You can also keep a copy running locally for testing and only move the stable version to the VPS once you are confident. The choice is yours, and the code supports both.

VPS hosting is not included in the purchase and is not required. It is simply the next step for anyone who wants the system to run continuously without keeping a home computer awake.
